Discrimination and suspicion will not solve anything - Suu Kyi

Suspicions based on discrimination and anger will not solve conflicts but only worsen the situation said opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, at an interfaith conference held in Yangon on 1 October.

"Due to the advanced technology the world is getting narrower and we have become a global village. It is natural that those living harmoniously in the global village are responsible for solving the problems by joining hands," Suu Kyi said.

She expressed that holding of interfaith conference in Myanmar is important for the peace of people living in Myanmar and the whole world, adding that fundamental safeties were essential to guaranteeing peace.

"One can assume that hate is based upon fear. Likewise, fear is based upon insecurity. Finally, peace of mind or security of mind can only be sought through ones religion. No one can deny the fact that religious leaders play an important role in the global village," said the NLD chairperson.

She added that for the peace to be achieved in Myanmar, rule of law is not enough on its own and that political stability and socio-economic development are also necessary.
