Over 90 per cent of people in northeastern Shan State want to see Shan national parties working together, Shan National League for Democracy (SNLD) said citing a recent survey.
The survey, conducted by Shan National Forum Implementation Committee, talked with more than 3,000 people in around 40 townships across the state. The respondents were not related to any political party or government army, according to SNLD.
Saying that they were happy at the survey findings, Sai Nyunt Lwin, secretary of SNLD, said, "Right now, it's impossible for the parties [to work together]. But they collaborated at the grassroots level on some issues."
The November 26-28 forum in Yangon was mainly-sponsored by SNLD, Shan National Development Party and other Shan cultural organisations.
The parties and organisations which attended the forum agreed to work together to end the ethnic conflicts in the state.
