A body of a Buddhist monk from a village near Taungoo is found to be incorruptible, even after 50 days since he passed away.
Bhaddanta Ardica Vhamsa, the presiding monk of a monastery in Kyein Taw Myaung Village in Bago region, passed away at the age of 95 at a clinic in Taungoo on October 31 and his body was brought back to the monastery.
The body has been placed in a glass coffin at the monastery.
Chit Hlaing, the trustee of the monastery, said the locals noticed some white mushroom-like substances on the left eye of the monk at his funeral and asked the township authorities to allow them to keep the body without cremating it.
"On the day of the funeral, the body was soft when I lifted it. It wasn't cold and stiff. Fifteen days later, there were some significant changes to the body, and it felt hard like a stone when I touched it. There weren't any odour [from the body]," said Maung Maunn Sein, who had taken care of the body of the monk.
