Four leaders of gold workers facing trials at court

Four leaders of the gold workers from the renowned "Moe Hti Moe Mi" areas in Yamethin District of upper Myanmar were put up on trial for the fourth occasion at the Yedarshay Township Law Court of Taungoo District in Bago Region on December 10, 2012.

The four are the leaders of the gold workers group facing trial under section 505 (b) of the Penal Code sued by the Administrator of Yedarshay Township, and they were not given bail, according to lawyer San San Hla.

The four leaders, Ye Yint Tun, Nay Aung Htet, Naing Win, and Saw Naung, were arrested at Minhla Town when the gold workers group staged a protest by taking long march protest from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw.

In fact, they were accused on two counts such as section 505 (b) and section (18) of the Penal Court.

Yedarshay Township NLD member Maung Maung guaranteed for the bail on kyats 5 million each for the accusation of section (18). Unfortunately, section 505 (b) is not allowed to give bail for the defendants.

The protest started in June 2012, when the manageable gold producers and gold workers from Yemethin District claimed their rights on   an assortment of benefits in full from the National Development Company (Head Office) in Yangon. As the demands were not met, the protesters expanded and heightened in tempo of protest stage by stage, and stepped ahead to take a long march of demonstration from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw up to the President's Residence.

Therefore, four leaders were arrested.

They were produced to the court for 4 times including on December 10.

Nay Aung's father Myint Than said, "They are not given bail at the court for the fourth time. We will not try any more. The four persons are spending their time in the prison in distress, while the friends and relatives helping them are wasting their time. These people are not from Myohla Town, but far from the township that arrested the four people. We intend to let them stay in the prison, and we will face the court from the outside".

On December 10, the reporter from the Weekly Eleven News Journal asked the Deputy Police Major Myint Wai from Yedarshay Township Police Station about the case being accused against the four leaders of the gold workers group, he said, "Don't ask me about the case. We received many instructions on this case. We need authorization from the higher authorities, if we are to tell you on the situation of the case."
