Govt condemns Al Jazeera's plan to air Rakhine unrest documentary

Myanmar government has strongly objected to the possible telecast of Qatar based Al Jazeera Television about Rakhine riots documentary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on December 6.

In the statement, it said that the news agency will air the documentary about their so-called Rohingyas in Myanmar from December 8 to 12 in Arabic and from December 9 to 13 in English languages.

It is also mentioned that the documentary will include accusation of genocide against the so-called "Rohingyas" by exaggerating and fabricating the incidents in Rakhine State.

The statement said Myanmar government handled the matter with full transparency since the riots between Bengalis and ethnic Rakhine people broke out in May, June and also in October 2012. The government has given permission to organizations such as UN agencies, International Non-government Organizations, Diplomatic Corporations and Muslim Aid to observe the affected areas themselves.

Foreign ministers from Turkey, Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as senior representatives of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation were allowed to visit Rakhine State. Myanmar government also provided shelter, relocation and rehabilitation of the homeless victims of the conflict, supplying food, medicine and other humanitarian assistance in a non-discriminatory manner to both affected communities.

The Government has taken actions to cease violence and maintaining rule of law in accordance with the law. An independent Investigation Commission has also been formed to carry out detail investigation of the incidents.

The Ministry reaffirmed that the government security forces and local authorities have never involved in the communal violence or racial and religious discrimination in Rakhine State as accused by some media and organizations. The Head of State and other responsible officials have also declared this to the world at the UN General Assembly, ASEAN Summit and the Non-Aligned Summit.

The conclusion of ministry's states includes that the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar strongly opposes and rejects the attempt made by Al Jazeera to broadcast the documentary.
