The chairperson of the National League for Democracy, Aung San Suu Kyi, paid a visit to Natmauk in Magway Region, the native place of her father General Aung San, on Saturday on the occasion of the 92nd National Day anniversary.

In her speech, the Nobel laureate said that she wanted the government to create more job opportunities and introduce vocational education. She said Myanmar's poor education system had resulted in a growing number of jobless graduates.
The NLD wants the State's power in order to establish a genuine democratic nation, Suu Kyi pointed out.

She added, "Only when we come to power, can a democratic nation be rapidly established. If asked whether we want power, our reply is 'Yes'. This is because we want to build a genuine democratic state.

"Those who unfairly seize power will be punished. Therefore, I often warn my party members not to set their eyes on the position. The people must control the political parties and shouldn't believe every word they utter. The people should understand the point that the representatives of political parties are ordinary human beings and therefore they may be guilty and need to understand that to some degree.

"The people should point out mistakes and correct them. In doing so, we move ahead.  Let me say the government needs to have power. If so, we can do what we like as much as we can, but the government can't do what it likes.

"The government that can do what it likes is not a democratic government. Our people should work together with us so that we can establish a country that all of us want.

"National reconciliation is a key factor in the development of the country. There is a need to create trust-building among ethnic groups, between the people and the government, and the people and the army.

"Mutual understanding must remain among organisations and ethnic groups and only with that can our country emerge as a developing country.

"Today is our national day. Today was the day of the first university students' strike in 1920. The strike was led by the students, but it was fully supported by their parents and we gained victory.

"That was the ever-first victory in Myanmar history and therefore, that day is still in our memory until now. The national victory means victory for national solidarity. For the development of our country, we need to go on grasping national solidarity victories a lot.

"In our country, we do not need to support 100 per cent in making decisions because there are people of different opinions. Ours is not a rich country. It is impossible to do everything in unison. For that reason, we must make decisions in unity," Suu Kyi said.
