Rakhine state government denies Turks missing

The Rakhine state government has rejected the rumour that four Turkish people have gone missing since Monday after arriving in Sittwe township with visitor visas.

"This is impossible. The state government keeps records of inbound and outbound visitors. Even if they went missing, there should have been reports. At the moment, no groups have sent us notifications. We have regular contacts with the Turkish group. There aren't any who came with tourist visa. [We] have asked the Minister for Border Affairs. This is just a rumour," Hla Thein, chairman of the Information and Documentation Committee of Rakhine state, told Eleven Media.

The rumour about the missing Turks was published in The Arakan Times, an online news website.
