National League for Democracy (NLD) chairperson Aung San Suu Kyi will visit Natmauk, the hometown of her father General Aung San, on December 8 as part of her tour in the Magway region.
She will be attending the National Day commemoration ceremony held by NLD in Natmauk and deliver a speech to the public.
In the evening, she will continue to Magway and meet with locals. After spending the night in Magway, she will proceed to Bagan after visiting Yenangyaung and Kyaukpadaung, according to an official from NLD (Magway).
This will be the first time the Nobel Laureate will visit the Magway region after she was released from house arrest in 2010. Although she planned to visit the region during her campaign for the by-election, she had to cancel the trip due to health reasons.
She has been appointed by President Thein Sein to head a special commission to probe the controversial mining project, where riot police cracked down on protestors injuring about 100, including monks.
