Current productivity of rabies vaccine by Myanmar Pharmaceutical Factory (MPF) is not enough for the whole country, Dr. Myo Khine, physician and lecturer of Neuro-medical Department of Yangon General Hospital told  Eleven Media.

Due to the poor pharmacodynamics and observed side effects of MPF-made rabies vaccine, better pharmaceutical formulation for vaccine and manufacturing is needed. Moreover, rabies vaccine used in Myanmar is less protectable comparing to other countries where more effective and safety drugs are used, he said.

Over 17000 ampoules of vaccines are produced annually, according to releases from Ministry of Health; the figure is not enough for everyone being bitten nationwide, said Dr. Myo Khine urging, even the country can't generate the most advanced vaccine, it had better to import the quality and safety products.

Mainly intention for states and regions, the MPF had manufactured 17456 ampoules in 2010-2011 fiscal year and 16725 ampoules in 2011-2012. Myanmar has still been formulating rabies vaccine from the sheep brain tissues while most countries practice the embryonated chicken and duck eggs studies.
