Four missing children in religious school fire found alive









 


The Information Ministry announced at 8am news today that four missing children in a fire at a mosque in Yangon's Botahtaung Township have been found alive and unhurt and that the public are urged not to believe rumours based on the Internet news.


The news report stated that a fire broke out at Saudi Keeya Yekyaw Mosque on 48th Street, Ward 10, Botahtaung Township, Yangon Region, at about 3 am today. According to sources from the Botahtaung Police Force members, who rushed to the scene, the fire started due to intense heat of a voltage regulator in the mosque, the report said.


Six fire engines rushed to the scene and firefighters managed to put the fire under control at 3.10am. Thirteen out of 70 students who were asleep upstairs were found dead with burnt injures and suffocation.


According to the office of the chief of Myanmar Police Force, the four children who went missing during the fire have been found alive after 7am, the report said.


The Yangon regional security and border affairs minister and the chief and deputy chief of regional police force visited the mosque, which adjoins the religious school. The case is under investigation, the report added.


In the news release, the information ministry also urged the people not to believe rumors based on the Internet news and said that the Myanmar Radio and Television would continue to broadcast correct news and events.
