Research laboratory construction to be completed by the year's end









The construction of an advanced research laboratory will be completed by the end of the year, according to the Department of Medical Research (Lower Myanmar).


The laboratory is part of a joint project between the department under the Ministry of Health and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to conduct research on infectious diseases including TB, malaria and jaundice.


The four-year project is aimed at research capacity promotion on infectious diseases which are occurring in Myanmar and supporting of laboratory assistances. The laboratory has been under construction in the compound of Medical Research Department (Lower Myanmar).


The project will include the construction of advanced research laboratory building including three laboratories, installation of laboratory equipment, construction of the conference room capable of using ICT technology, carrying out bilateral medical research works and providing technical training courses conducted by Korean experts.


KOICA signed an agreement with the department in Auguest 2011 to provide US$3 million for the project and Myanmar will also have to provide strength of staff and project's site. Now, Vietnam-based Donsung Architects Associates of Korean Construction Company is building the laboratory.
