Nation-wide ceasefire must approve previous agreements: Aung Min

Nation-wide ceasefire must approve previous agreements: Aung Min

A plan to sign a nation-wide ceasefire accord must first approve previous agreements with ethnic armed groups, according to Aung Min, Minister for the President Office.

The Minister mentioned that signing a state-level ceasefire, banning the carrying of arms between areas and signing a peace deal in the presence of international organisations were all points that needed to be re-approved to continue to build trust between parties.

"Peace will be achieved soon. Although I cannot tell exactly about the time when peace will be achieved, it will come true. I am determined to succeed the peace implementation process," said Aung Min.

Regarding the peace implementation process, Aung Min explained that there are 19 MPs included in the peacemaking committee. however, because they have not explain the progress of peace process to Parliament many members of parliament felt disappointed.

The amendment to the 2008 Constitution that the ethnic groups are demanding is only up to the Parliament. As for the peace implementation committee, if necessary, will can only give suggestions," added Aung Min.
