A total of 173 Myanmar nationals held at detention centres in Malaysia have returned to their country yesterday under a chartered flight arrangement by the Ayeyarwady Foundation, the foundation's spokesperson said.

The migrants served prison sentences in Malaysia for illegal entry, and then they had to stay at the detention centres under the Malaysian's Immigration Department until they were finally cleared  to return home.

Aung Myo Saw informed the Daily Eleven that the chartered flight was scheduled for June 29 with the arrival time of 8pm.

Ayeyarwady Foundation, together with Myanmar Airways International and Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, helped the migrants with free-of-charge transportation to come back to their country.

Their flight was scheduled only on Saturday due to the usual procedures at Malaysian immigration department.

Such free transportation arrangements are being offered to Myanmar migrants in Malaysia who want to come back home due to their safety concerns. Last month, series of violent attacks targeted at them occurred in Selayang district in Malaysia. Malaysian police have also increased arresting illegal Myanmar migrants since then.
