YANGON, July 11 (Xinhua) -- A total of 123 Myanmar fishermen, charged by the Indian authorities with intruding into India's water territory, have been freed and returned home from Port Blair of India, official media reported Thursday.
After negotiation with the Indian authorities and arranged by Myanmar's Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, and the Myanmar Airways International, the 123 fishermen, handed over by the Indian government to Myanmar Embassy, were brought back home Wednesday, said the New Light of Myanmar.
The fishermen are mostly from Myanmar's Ayayawaddy delta region, while the others are from Rakhine state, Tanintharyi region, Mon state and Yangon region.
Since 2000, a total of 4,398 Myanmar fishermen have so far been brought back from India, according to the report.
