NAYPYITAW, Myanmar, July 1 (UPI) -- Security forces in Rakhine state in western Myanmar put an end to violence that left four homes of Muslim residents destroyed, an official said Monday.
There were no reports of deaths or injuries.
"The situation is more stable now and all shops and schools are open as usual," security spokesman Zaw Moe Aung told The Irrawaddy, a Thai newspaper, Monday.
The arrest of a Muslim man for the alleged rape of an 18-year-old Buddhist woman sparked the unrest Sunday evening, the report said.
The spokesman said Myanmar police were trying to respond with arrests of those retaliating against area Muslims.
The violence followed a warning last week from the United Nations about religious conflicts in western Myanmar.
At least two people died and six others were wounded, including two minors, during fighting last week at a camp for the internally displaced.
Myanmar earned international praise for political changes that began with general elections in 2010 but human rights issues and religious conflict have overshadowed some of the reforms.
