MYANMAR: Carlsberg brewery to be unveiled by end of 2014 - just

Carlsberg has confirmed to just-drinks it will complete its Myanmar brewery before the end of next year.

The Danish brewer announced in February a JV with local firm Myanmar Golden Star Breweries to make and distribute Carlsberg-owned brands. The deal, which had an initial investment of between US$35m and $50m, would also see a brewery built in the country, Carlsberg said at the time.

A Carlsberg spokesperson today (9 July) told just-drinks: "The factory is due to be ready by the end of next year."

Carlsberg is not the only brewer interested in Myanmar, which has opened up to international companies in the wake of political reform. Heineken is to build a $60m brewery in Myanmar as part of its own joint-venture in the country. Last year, the Coca-Cola Co and Pepsico announced returns to the country.
