The Myanmar government always welcomes "fact-based" criticisms from media, senior government minister said in a regular press conference in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Southeast Asian country, Saturday, according to the state-run Myanma Alinn report.
Soe Thane, minister at the president office, said, "You (the media) are not supposed to only praise our government. Criticize the government if it goes wrong. Criticize the parliament if it does."
"Political attack on individuals is not appropriate," the apparently reform-minded minister added.
He praised the media for their coverage of the country in transition but warned against allegations built on "uncertain information and personal affairs".
The press briefing at the ministry of industry was also attended by immigration and population minister Khin Yi, hotel minister Htay Aung and president's spokesman Ye Htut.
They were open to questions of the reporters before they discussed the role of media in the future of the country.
Ex-military general Soe Thane had served in the former military regime as the ministry for industry before he was appointed as the minister at the president office when Thein Sein formed the country's first "democratic" government.
He was much part of the reform measures taken by the incumbent government.
