Norway's Telenor to install 10,000 communication towers in Myanmar

Norway-based Telenor, the recent winner of a mobile operating licence in Myanmar, says it will install 10,000 communication towers across the country and distribute communication services within April to June in next year.  
Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President and CEO of Telenor said that Telenor will bring the benefits of mobile communications to Myanmar citizens because they knew how to deal with the problems faced in other countries.
Telenor will use HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) and LTE-Ready (Long Term Evolution) technology to match the sophistication of leading networks around the world today. The company plans to reach nationwide coverage in Myanmar within five years. A full range of mobile services, including both voice and data, will be launched as the initial offering in 2014.
Telenor is 54 percent owned by the Norwegian government. The company is now operating a full range of telecommunication services in Thailand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Malaysia.
It is also providing Call Centres and communication services with Myanmar and Mon versions in Thailand. Total Access Communication, their Norwegian parent will accept Myanmar trainees at the company's training school for nurturing of skilled workers and recruiting of staff.
