Meeting 07-02-2013
Recently returned from an extended stay in Burma also known as Myanmar, Englewood Rotarian Charlotte Bennett Schoen was the speaker at the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club meeting. This was a friendship renewal for her since President Sophie Stone was instrumental in introducing her to people of importance to her while in Burma. Ms. Schoen has become very friendly with Sophie now that she has been exposed to the Burmese customs and costumes.
Her talk encompassed the problems that she encountered and how they were solved. A little thing like when she arrived from the United States, her lodgings at the hotel had been overbooked and there was no place for her to stay. To her rescue came Sophie Stone who arranged for someone to meet her at the airport and transport her to a friend's house. This friend opened her heart and house to Charlotte. Realizing that Charlotte was encountering a different culture, this friend brought her to local shops and saw to it that she had outfits indigenous to Burma.
Part of her luggage included books which are in demand there. Paramus Sunrise Rotary will conduct a Dictionary Project during the 2013 - 2014 Rotary year, in part due to Charlotte bennett Schoen's experience. Also on her tour agenda was visits to schools, orphanages and senior living homes.
