Upper House Speaker warns military MPs to break silence

Upper House Speaker Khin Aung Myint warned military MPs to make it clear whether they agree or not when approving bills on Tuesday.

"When the Speaker is asking whether you agree or disagree, you need to reply. I've already warned about this several times before. If the whole group does not want to answer back, the Speaker can order them out of the Parliament during the session," said Khin Aung Myint.

"The respective ministries, the bills committee and MPs have already discussed about the bills outside the Parliament so that they don't need to be discussed during the Parliament [session]," he continued.

He added that there is a television record of the Parliament so he can look at who and who has not answered back to the Speaker.

"If they [the military MPs] have been registered to attend Parliament, they should participate with great  interest," said Upper House MP Hla Swe.
