Government to hold second round of peace talks with TNLA

The government's Union Peacemaking Work Committee is to hold a second round of peace talks with the Taaung National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Namhsan Township, Northern Shan State.

The TNLA — a group that represents the Palaung ethnic group living in northern Shan State not far from the border with China — have been engaged in a decades-long guerrilla war with the central government. State-level peace talks between Myanmar's government and the TNLA took place for the first time in the border town of Muse, northern Shan State, on July 31.

"We held a peace talk with Palaung nationals in Muse on July 31st. We are going to hold further peace talk in Namhsan, the capital of Palaung. We are now trying to include all ethnic armed groups in all exclusive peace process while implementing the ceasefire here," said Aung Min at a discussion on ethnic issues during the  commemoration ceremony of the 25th anniversary of the 1988 Uprising.
Clashes between the Myanmar army and the TNLA occurred in Kutkai Township in northern Shan State in June of this year. The first peace talks between the TNLA  was held on July 31st and arrangements are being carried out for signing of ceasefire agreement.
