YANGON, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Myanmar police will charge a human trafficker from Myanmar captured in Thailand along with three other suspects, Xinhua news agency reported citing state media reports.
Police Colonel Win Naing Tun said human trafficker Ko Myo was arrested during a raid on Aug 1 by joint forces comprising Thai authorities and Myanmar embassy officials in Thailand's southern province of Surat Thani.
Four of the 14 trafficked victims were rescued from a port in Kantang, reports said.
Ko Myo is currently held in custody at a hospital after sustaining gunshot wound during the raid.
According to testimonies by victims, Ko Myo was involved in human trafficking, labour abuse, rape and exploitation of workers.
He was also identified as leader of a trafficking group and was involved in murder, according to a testimony by a victim named Aye Min.
Win Naing Tun, deputy chief of Myanmar's anti-human trafficking police corps, said Myanmar authorities are working with their Thai counterparts to charge Ko Myo in accordance with Thai law.
