THAI TRADE PROMOTION DEPT URGES SMES TO ENTER MYANMAR

Thailand's International Trade Promotion Department has urged Thai
small and medium enterprises to get involved more in Myanmar's economy
as it opened its consultant center in Yangon, the country's biggest
city, recently, reported Thai newspaper The Nation.


Srirat Rastapana, the director-general of the department, called on
Thai firms to invest more in the neighbouring country in here speech
at the opening ceremony, says the report.


"There is room (in Myanmar's economy) to grow for Thai businesses,
especially SMEs, as Myanmar is close to Thailand," Srirat said.


According to the official, the department targeted the 10 % increase
of exports to fellow ASEAN nations, with higher target of 18% growth
of exports to Myanmar.



The department is also offering courses for businessmen in Myanmar and
organizing trade fairs in various corners of the countries.


Thailand is one of the largest investors in Myanmar, second only to
China, and the second biggest trade partner.
