Dimapur police have busted a racket indulging in issuing of fake vehicle documents and driving licenses and arrested the main accused identified as Gopal Gonmei (54), son of late Nikon Gonmei of Imphal Eastcurrently residing at Rongmei colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur.
According to a police press release, the accused was arrested on October 5 after a raid on his house. During the raid police recovered incriminating documents and items which included one seal and round seal each of DTO, Tuensang;
one national permit of vehicle (truck) bearing registration number NL01K 0175; one temporary permit of vehicle (truck) bearing registration number NL05D 6218; one insurance certificate of Oriental Insurance Company Limited; registration certificates of vehicles with fitness and pollution certificates' blank booklet of Counterfoil license; blank booklet of pollution control certificate' photographs of "no objection certificate" for driving license attested with seal and signature of DTO, Tuensang; 60 sheets of driving license attested with seal and signature of DTO, Tuensang; two registers containing records of driving license issued; three envelopes of Oriental Insurance Company Limited; one computer CPU and a HP deskjet printer.
A case has been registered against the accused at East Police station and an investigation was on. The accused has stated that he scanned the image of the original documents with the help of the computer to make fake documents.
Most of the demands for these documents come from Assam, the accused said adding that he used to forge the signatures of DTO Tuensang and Phek and charged Rs. 2000 to 3000 for a vehicle registration certificate and Rs. 500 for a driving license.
