Three ships from the Japanese navy made a five day visit to Myanmar for the first time with the aim to build relations between the two countries.

The ships belong to the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (MSDF) Training Squadron and comprises training vessel Kashima, and two destroyers - the JDS Shirayuki and JDS Isoyuki.

The courtesy visit is aimed at building cooperation between the two countries. About 700 Japanese MSDF forces, including 180 cadets, are onboard the three vessels and the crew will take part in goodwill events with Myanmar's navy.

This is the first visit to Myanmar by the Japanese navy since World War Two.

"For this current visit, we have no plans to carry our joint military exercises. But we will plan for those kind of exercises in future," said the Captain F. Kitgawa.

During their five day visit in Myanmar, the crew plans to visit prominent sites.

"At this time Myanmar is transforming into democratic nation, we are very glad to do this kind of exchanges with Myanmar," added the captain.

Myanmar is increasing international relations with armed forces from countries around the world. In early 2013 navy ships from India visited Myanmar.
