A meteorological radar station will be established in the area of old
Chanmyathazi airport in Chanmyathazi Township in Mandalay Region,
according to an Information Ministry report.
It would cover the area with the radius of 450 kilometer and will be
established with the support of Japanese International Aids Agency.
The estimated cost of the construction of the facility is USSD 12 million.
International Civil Aviation Federation has already confirmed the
airport as the juncture for 150 aircrafts and installation of the
navigation systems is underway.
The airport was built in the colonial era of Myanmar and last used in 2000.
It has then been used as the training ground for a few state-flag
carriers of Myanmar.
The use of the airport has been questioned at Myanmar's parliament at
least twice.
