Myanmar's anti-narcotic police force will be expanded threefold to combat narcotic drugs throughout the whole country, Police Lt-Col Zaw Lin Tun told The Daily Eleven.

"New organization structure for the anti-narcotic police force has been approved. The force will be enlarged threefold at the country level. We will combat both production and use of drugs," said Police Lt-Col Zaw Lin Tun from the Anti-narcotic Police Force.

Drugs are seized nearly every day, and the incidents lead to a conclusion that there is an increase in drugs activities these days, said the police officer.

He said the drugs criminals also involve in arms and human trafficking. There are also threats of drugs gangs from West Africa, he added.

Meanwhile, the 15-year drugs abuse control program that started in 1999-2000 will come to an end in 2013-14. The authorities are planning another 5-year program in which they will collaborate with the general public in fighting against drugs.
