A radar station costing US$ 12 million (about Ks 11.62 trillion) will be built at ChanMyaThaSi Airport in Mandalay Region to monitor weather conditions in upper Myanmar, the government says.

Deputy Minister for Transport Zin Yaw confirmed the news while replying to a question raised by MP Tin Maung of ChanMyaThaSi constituency in Mandalay Region, during a Lower House Parliamentary session.

The radar station will be built with the assistance of Japan International Corporation Agency-JICA, he said.

"ChanMyaThaSi airport is being planned as a base for state-owned small aircrafts," the deputy minister explained. "Moreover, the International Civil Aviation Organization has designated that the aviation indicators are being set up in air traffic control to monitor international flights that pass over Myanmar territory every day."
