The World Bank has pledged USD 2 billion for a development plan in the once-isolated country in transition, according to an AFP report.
The funding will go to initiatives to promote access to energy and healthcare in one of the world's poorest country.
World Bank president Jim Yong Kim said half of the funding would be used to increase access to electricity in rural areas where the country's 70 percent population is living.
"We are increasing our support for the huge reform effort underway in Myanmar," the president said in a statement.
He also said on his first-ever visit to the Southeast Asian country that the efforts are aimed at bringing fruits of development to the relatively poorer population in rural areas.
"Expanding access to electricity in a country like Myanmar can help transform a society," he noted.
A total of USD 20 million wil be used to help Myanmar achieve universal healthcare goals by 2030, according to the AFP report.
