Crackdown nets 163 illegal workers in Mae Sot

Police, military, rangers and local administrators joined forces to surround the Song Kwai 1 community, located behind a mall in Mae Sot district and a known hub for human trafficking and refuge for illegal workers from Myanmar, said Colonel Terdsak Ngamsanong of the 4th Infantry Regiment.

"The operation was carried out merely to re-establish order, because Mae Sot is a border area with many factories, which we want to see employing legal foreign workers," he said, adding that there were still many areas in the district set for operations under the crackdown.
