Myanmar getting to grips with updated maritime laws


Singapore: For the last year Singapore lawyer Jude Benny has been working with the government of Myanmar to help the country modernise its maritime laws. Speaking with our sister site Maritime CEO, the well known lawyer described progress to date in the emerging Southeast Asian nation.



The 56-year-old managing partner of Singapore law firm Joseph Tan Jude Benny LLP has an office in Yangon and is now one of the world's experts on Myanmar maritime, a sector many are eyeing with excitement.



 "To succeed in Myanmar you have to be in it for the long haul," he said, adding: "You have to scratch beneath the surface to get the gold."
