Wow. Alexander Wang celebrates his first year at Balenciaga. As you might have observed, I wasn't really sure about him in this historical fashion house. But I must admit- this collection was the best to date. It was really, really good."At the beginning, it was about the idea of architectural forms and symmetry, the 360-degree view," Wang told Nicole Phelps backstage. "Here, I wanted to work with asymmetry, cutting more fluidly." Just like Raf Simons at Dior this season, Balenciaga has a lot to do with boats and water. The scarves were worn as bracelets, the dresses were liquidy like water and the masculine boots and smoking reminded of the rich ship owners. The collection wasn't sex-appealing but rather sophisticated and elusive. The cuts in all these jumpsuits and gown (mostly kept in black and white) are shifting between their boundaries. That's the real, first major moment Wang experiences at Balenciaga.
About the artist: Tamara de Lempicka , born Maria Górska in Warsaw, Congress Poland, then part of the Russian Empire was a Polish Art Deco painter and "the first woman artist to be a glamour star".
