Thai authorities are increasingly cracking down on illegal Myanmar workers and have threatened to take legal action against employers, according to Mae Sot-based Joint Action Committee for Burma Affairs.
Since June 3, some 163 Myanmar workers were arrested by the combined operations carried out by soldiers, immigration officials and border security forces.
The Thai suppression of illegal migrants has been intensified following the seizure of power last month. Myanmar workers are reportedly among the first victims of the suppression campaign.
Illegal migrants from Myanmar have been hiding in remote location, such as farms and obscure buildings, in order to evade detection.
Jacba chairperson Moe Gyo said the suppression has targeted against undocumented workers. Some detainees were charged and remanded for drug offence and illegal gambling in addition to violation the immigration law.
Detained Myanmar migrants would be sent back across border towns like Tachilek, Kawthoung and Myawaddy.
About half of three million Myanmar workers in Thailand do not have proper documentation.
