25 killed in train fire in northern Burma

At least 25 people died and almost 100 were injured when a tanker train derailed and then burst into flames on Friday in northern Burma.

State television said that the train had overturned near Kantbalu, 128 km north of Shwebo and about 800 km north of Rangoon. Local people reportedly rushed to the scene to skim fuel from the leaking carriages, but many were engulfed in flames when the fuel ignited.

The train was travelling from Rangoon to the Kachin state capital of Myitkyina.
