Kachin rebels attack convoy, kill 2









Ethnic armed rebels in Northern Myanmar ambushed recently a convoy carrying government money and 186 prisoners, killing at least two prisoners and injuring 14 others, according to officials.


The incident occurred near a village named "5 Mile" in Phakant Township, Kachin state, in the morning of November 14.


"The money was being sent to a bank in Myitkyina. Actually there was no loss except the two prisoners dead. No government employees were injured. The prisoners were to send from Phakant to Moe Nyin prison in Kachin," said an official.


Earlier that day, another clash was also occurred near a village named "Lamaungkone" in Phakant between the ethnic rebels Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and government army. No casualties were reported.


The ongoing armed conflict in the Kachin state has caused many civilian casualties in the last two months.
