Mobile Internet users in many areas of the country have complained about slow Internet speed and bad connection for over a month.
Blaming it on the rise of mobile Internet users, Myanmar telecommunications officials assured that the problem would be solved after the expansion of Internet network.
The number of mobile Internet users in Myanmar has reached over 200,000, surpassing the number of broadband Internet users, which is about 150,000 now.
"WCDMA [Wide-band Code Division Multiple Access, a kind of 3G mobile telecommunication system] has had bad connection since the middle of October. The 3G could not be connected. Now we have to use EDGE [Enhanced Data GSM Environment, another kind of mobile internet system] connection," Htoo Aung, a resident of Latha Township, said on Monday.
A mobile web surfer in Hmawbi Township said he can connect to the Internet but cannot view any website if he is in Myaynigone. But he has not gotten any signal in his township for over a month, he said, asking not to be named.
However, some mobile Internet users said the connection is better during the night.
"The connection is not good in Yaekyaw Ward, Puzaungtaung Township these days. The page shows only loading but doesn't load," said Ei Ei Soe from the township.
Asked about the problem, an engineer of mobile telecommunication department of Myanmar Post and Telecommunication (MPT) said: "The users have to be patient with the connection during the busy hours. We need to expand the mobile Internet network."
The MPT officials said they are working to expand and install 3G networks in Yangon.
