Myanmar has officially banned all cross-border travel between the country and Bangladesh, shutting down all the border gates including No 1 border gate in Maungdaw on November 19, according to officials.

The ban coincided with US President Barack Obama's visit to Myanmar. It may be concerned with the border attack which took place earlier this month, and "the officials are now discussing with the Bangladesh's government [concerning the issue]," a Maungdaw resident said.

Security forces from both sides have met since the construction site of the Myanmar-Bangladesh border fence in Maungdaw fell under attack on November 6, with one dead, and three others missing including a sergeant from the government army, but the meetings have so far failed to disclose any information about these missing people.

Another fight occurred again on November 11 between an unknown armed group and Myanmar security forces. No casualties were reported.
