Myanmar court dismisses judges, legal officers

A Myanmar regional high court has taken action against legal officers in the region, sources said.

The Mandalay Supreme Court fired judges and other judicial officers for violating rules and regulations and warned other officers against committing similar offences.

Seven higher and lower ranking officers were dismissed, including two township judges, two deputy township judges, a legal officer, senior legal clerk and  junior clerk. The court issued a warning to a district judge, deputy district judge, senior clerk, and junior clerk.

The Committee for Rule of Law and Stability, which is chaired by Aung San Suu Kyi, has been receiving thousands of complaint letters alleging corruption in the judiciary. Members of the committee visited Mandalay's district courts on November 2 to verify reports.
