Postpaid GSM could be used in overseas









Postpaid GSM mobile phone from Myanmar can be used in seven countries and regions now and Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) also allows mobile phones from those countries and regions to be used in Myanmar starting from October, according to MPT.


The mobile users need to inform  MPT for roaming services two day before overseas trip. The seven countries and regions are Vietnam, China, Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. Vietnam was the first to initate the pratice in 2010 and China was the second in 2011.


"Currently only postpaid system mobile phones can be used. Roaming for prepaid system mobile phones installation is still an ongoing process. The charges will be varied depending on which country you are in. They will charge the bill with their rate. We are negotiating with 30 more countries for inbound and outbound calling," Htay Win, Chief Engineer of Mobile Telecommunications Department from MPT said.


MPT and eleven famous telecommunication companies from overseas cooperate for roaming services. SK Telecom Co., Ltd., a South Korean wireless telecommunications operator, NTT DOCOMO, a world-leading mobile operator of Japan, China Unicom, Singtel Telecom from Singapore, Hutchison Telecommunications, a multinational telecommunications services company from Hong Kong and China Mobile are among the chosen.
