Myanmar will study the Permanent Residence (PR) system of more than 70 countries, Maung Maung Than, director-general of the Department of Immigration and National Registration under the Ministry of Immigration and Population, said.
"Myanmar is deliberating on legitimising permanent residence for potential foreign investors, service providers, intellectuals and immigrants. We will observe how the requirements are to apply for the PR system, how to collect taxes for the government, to what extent PR will be permitted, the rights of PR holders and the reasons to deny and withdraw the PR permits from them," he said.
Therefore, a commission comprising experts is needed along with workshops with professionals from outside, he said.
