Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is planning to visit Myanmar in late May, according to the reports of Japanese media.
Abe's trip is intended to counter China's growing influence in Myanmar. He may come here on May 25 and 26, the reports said.
Japan is planning to increase its aid for implementing democracy reforms in Myanmar and helping it to develop the economy.
He will meet with President Thein Sein and discuss the investments and infrastructural developments in Myanmar with Japanese assistance.
Moreover, the prime minister will announce the relief aids including those to construct schools in ethnic minority's areas as well as technology assistance in livestock breeding and agriculture sectors.
Abe's visit will become the first time in 36 years of a Japanese Prime Minister to visit Myanmar after Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda's in 1977.
He will meet again with pro-democracy Aung San Suu Kyi who visited Japan in recent weeks.
Japan canceled the debts of Myanmar in view of the government's reforms in political and economic sectors.
Japan's economy is improving in Abe's era and its stock market value has been up about 40% since last November.
