Less unorthodox dress, especially among the ladies, were seen this year Thingyan water festival, according to a Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) official.
The YCDC was quoting a review from the Yangon Region Government.
Yangon authorities organized a special review meeting concerning the festival this year on April 23.
Last year was a worse year with several cases of female participants wearing untraditional dress not suitable for public display during the Thingyan which is one of the most honored festivals in Myanmar, according to officials.
However YCDC officials said this year saw several cases of regulation violations such as building pavilions larger than permitted length, using water pipelines beyond permission, damaging trees when building pavilions.
YCDC will submit their findings through reviewing record photos of the pavilions built in Yangon to Yangon Region Government which in turn will review the findings [to take actions], officials say.
"Reviewing is now in the process. We will submit our review to the region government. The government will decide on taking legal action against those who violated the regulations during the festival. All deposits for building the pavilions will be refunded only after those steps," the YCDC official said.
There were several cases of the pavilion organizers being fined in previous years for breaching regulations in Yangon, according to sources from officials.
