BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 43-year-old Myanmar national died several hours after he was shot four times by a gunman.

The man was said to have stopped at the traffic light in Jalan Permatang Batu when the gunman got out of a car, fired at him and fled.

The victim's wife, their 15-year-old daughter and a worker were also in the four-wheel drive with him when the attack happened at 5.50pm yesterday.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said the victim was rushed to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital but died there.

He said that the victim was shot three times in the right shoulder and once in the right cheek.

"We are still investigating the motive and have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," said SAC Mazlan.
