Currently, Ayeyarwun and Yadana low-cost housing projects are being developed in Dagon Seikkan township of Yangon. The two projects will have a total of over 17,000 apartments, and each unit will be valued at 20 million kyats which is an unaffordable for the majority of the people, the minister added.
The deputy-director Aye Aye Myint of the Human Settlement and Housing Development said, "The cost of construction rate was 1500 kyats per square foot when Yuzana low-cost housing was built ten years ago and now it is 20,000 kyats per one square foot for these two projects. She added "developing infrastructure like school, market, hospital and other living necessity results those apartments to be sold at 20 million kyats apiece."
