Many well-wishers welcomed Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi at the Yangon International Airport last night as she arrived back from Mongolia.
"As her arrival time was very late at night, I was worried that there wouldn't be many well-wishers. I wanted many people to welcome her. Now, a lot of people came to welcome her. I believe that whenever she went on foreign trips, she did beneficial things for the country," said Khin Saw Mu, vice chairperson of National League for Democracy branch office in North Dagon Township.
The Nobel Laureate was in Mongolia for a week to participate in the 7th Ministerial Conference of Community of Democracies (CoD) at the invitation of Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj.
She delivered a speech at the summit and received the Geremek award for her lifetime struggle to bring democracy in Myanmar.
She also met with President Elbegdorj at the Government House in the capital, Ulan Batur, and gave a joint lecture with him.
This visit is her seventh overseas visit after being released from house arrest and her third overseas trip during 2013 following after her seven-day trip to Japan.
During her overseas trip, she has been warmly welcomed by the leaders of respective countries and provided with full security. The people from respective countries also welcome her as a world leader while her news was featured in international media.
She was also greeted by the well-wishers at the Yangon International Airport whenever she came back from her trips.
