ETHNIC GROUPS TO FORM UNITED POLITICAL PARTY

Fifteen ethnic groups in Myanmar agreed Tuesday on formation of a unified political party in a bid to ensure greater ethnic representation in coming 2015 elections, RFA reported.

Federated Union Party will be formed by 15 ethnic groups.

The agreement was reached on the first day of two-day conference in eastern Shan State city of Taunggyi.

“The ethnic parties have run for election within their ethnic regions, but there are many ethnic people who are living in different parts of the country,” Oo Hla Saw, general secretary of Rakhine Nationality Development Party, is quoted as saying by RFA.
