Japanese tourist stopped at Bagan-Nyaung U Airport

A Japanese tourist who was about to leave for Mandalay via Bagan-Nyaung-U Airport by Air Bagan flight No W9-143 on June 24 was stopped and searched by airport securities and seized some items seemed to be animal fossils.
The Japanese tourist named Mr. Takashima was found with a fossil assumed to be a 7 inches long and 3 inches wide lower jaw, 6.5 inches long and 3.3 inches wide molar and 5.5 inches long and 4 inches wide molar with teeth, a 4 inches long and 3 inches wide lower jaw, a granite stone and a 9-inch-tall wooden Buddha statue and some lacquer wares.
Upon investigation, the tourist revealed that he bought the lacquer wares from a local shop and a hotel but he added that he exchanged the fossils with some gifts from young man at a prominent temple at Bagan.
The airport officials stopped him before boarding the flight on that day and the seized materials were handed over to the police force at Nyaung-U for further investigation.
After studying the materials, the authority accused the Japanese tourist of illegally exporting the items in according with illegally exporting of ancient cultural heritage law. The Japanese passenger is a tourist who was permitted entering Myanmar several times.
