Myanmar looking to promote trade ties with Hong Kong

The Myanmar new government is determined to promote trade with Hong Kong, according to the President Office's website.


The move came from President Thein Sein's meeting with Mr John Tsaung Chun-wah, Financial Minister/Secretary of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government at Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw on June 28.


Myanmar would like to welcome Hong Kong very much to invest in the Myanmar, which has many opportunities for foreign investors. Myanmar wishes to gear up trade volume with Hong Kong as both of the countries haven't had much in trade relations, said President Thein Sein.


President Thein Sein also invited the Financial Minister to make investment in Myanmar's sectors such foodstuff as agriculture, forestry, mining, energy, special economic zones, tourism including the construction of extended structures of Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Hanthawady Airports.


The HK Financial Minister believes that both of the countries could promote economic cooperation, hoping that investment will be made in the enterprises of garment, toy and electrical appliances in addition to other services.
