Thai authorities to deport illegal Myanmar workers

Thai authorities arrested and deported a number of Myanmar illegal migrant workers after mounting serious trafficking in human, according to Ministry of Labor, Employment and Security.

Police forces of Immigration and Border Guard, in border Tak Province arrested 150 illegal migrant workers including women and children from Myanmar who snaked into a refugee camp in Thai border. They were handed Myanmar authorities in Myawady in June 21.

"Thailand tightened security control after high number of human trafficking cases," said Ei Mon Soe, Deputy Director from Ministry of Labor, Employment and Security. "Arrested workers mostly carried no legal document. Most of the case happened previously in Tachilek, but it just happened in Myawady for the first time.

Eleven Myanmar migrant workers were deported to Tachileik in June 21 after illegal entry, according to resources.

Thet Naing Oo, Deputy Director General from Ministry of Labour, Employment and Security said, "The ministry is issued legal documents for migrants who are working legally in factories and plants in Thailand. People who sell things, open shops and visit to Thailand illegally would be arrested."

More than 1.2 million migrant workers from Myanmar are now working in Thailand. The ministry is opened eleven service centers to issue legal documents to more than one million migrant workers who have not yet registered.

Thailand deported more than 26,000 illegal migrant workers to Myanmar between November 19, 2010 and June 21, 2013.
