MANILA – The Philippine women's volleyball team needed four sets to beat Myanmar for its first win in the Asian Southeastern Zone Women's World Championship qualifier in Vietnam on Saturday.
The Filipinos, composed of selected players from Shakey's V-League, dropped the first set before sweeping the next three for a 20-25, 25-14, 25-10, 25-17 victory over Myanmar.
It was the team's first win after yielding to host country Thailand in the opener 25-9, 25-11, 25-18.
Team manager Tony Boy Liao told Spin.ph's Reuben Terrado that the Filipinos looked very relaxed against Myanmar compared to their defeat to Vietnam.
"The team played confidently and had a very good first ball. No tension, very relaxed not like last night," said Liao.
The V-League selection will wrap up the qualifiers with battle against Indonesia on Sunday.
The top finisher in the tournament will march into the Asian qualifiers.
Liao, however, said it will be difficult for the Filipinos to advance even if they tie for first place with Vietnam and Indonesia.
"[Sa] quotient, mababa tayo," he said.
